Kent State University - School of Journalism and Mass Communication

Transfer Students

If you are transferring credits from another college or university and want to become a JMC major, your credits will be evaluated first by the Kent State University Office of Admissions and then by the JMC Associate Director. You will enter Kent as a pre-journalism major as long as you have obtained a 2.50 GPA in college. To become a JMC major, you need to complete a set of requirements.

Requirements to Become a JMC Major

  • Complete 15 credit hours at Kent State University
  • Achieve a 2.75 or better overall GPA (grades don't transfer, just credit hours, so you start fresh at Kent)
  • Complete one of two freshman English classes with a "B-" grade (if completed at your previous school, you must still complete one of two specific English classes at Kent with a "B-" or better)
  • Complete Introduction to Mass Communication with a "C-" or better (if not completed at your previous school)
