This is part of the new newsroom for student media at Kent State University.
Students from Kent JMC are working on the next edition of the Daily Kent Stater, tonight’s two live high definition newscasts on TV2, updates for the 24-hour collaborative Web site, KentNewsNet.com, and maybe a newscast for Black Squirrel Radio.
It appears to be a smoothly functioning operation. Collegial cooperation at its best. Makes you want to shout, "I love the smell of convergence in the morning!"
Ha! Life should be so easy.
Nothing has come easy in the process of trying to create a converged news operation out of four separate – and fiercely independent -- student media organizations. What we can say is that it’s a lot better than it was last year, our first in the new space. We went through a lot of growing pains. We still are, even as we work through our second year in the space.
Along the way, we've learned a lot, including a number of lessons that might help you more easily get started on creating your own converged newsroom. And, avoid some of the pitfalls along the way.
NEXT: Don't shoot yourself in the foot!
