Kent State and JMC are working hard to extend the university's graduate reach overseas. One country that interests both groups is China. Professor Tim Smith visited several universities in China, but the majority of his time was spent in Shanghai where the KSU has a new partnership agreement to bring students into the JMC master's program. |

Smith says that many bright Chinese students are eager and willing to learn about American culture at Kent State.
Smith was one of several Kent State faculty who went on the trip. He was representing JMC and Communication Studies.
Last fall, students from China visited Kent State and toured Franklin Hall, the student media newsroom, the Black Squirrel Radio studio and the TV2 studio and control room.
As with American students, the tour of the new facility increased the interest level of the students.
Smith, who is serving as Acting Graduate Coordinator, says he is expecting a number of the students he met in China to apply to the JMC master's program.
