Balancing Studies and Social Life

Balancing college and social life can be overwhelming at times. With studies, homework, jobs, and of course the parties, it can be difficult. Sometimes students feel that things are falling apart, but experts say that they should always remember that everything has its balance and time.
“You have to budget your time in all your areas. Organizing a schedule is good, but it’s hard. Learn to say no sometimes.” That’s what Teresa Hernández, a professor of photojournalism at Kent State University, said.
“Prioritizing, make sure to keep things in order,” said Danielle Wiggins, a graduate from media management. “Schoolwork demands more time, but I put my friendships and relationship first. You can’t be married to your schedule.”
Some students have to miss some events to do their work. “Yeah, I’ve missed a few Saturday nights,” said Frank Yonkof, a sophomore, who’s majoring in newspaper journalism.
Could planning a day out of the week just to relax and not do any work help? “Could help, but I don’t do that.” That’s what Schuyler Kassee, a senior, who’s majoring in integrated language arts, said.
“I really don’t have a balance,” said May Lee, whose major is English. “Having a schedule wouldn’t help. It’s hard.” Other students said it’s really hard for them to plan out a schedule. “It helps you realize what you have to do, but it’s hard to follow,” said Bilal Ciplak, who’s going for his PhD.
The main key here is to always to be organized and always schedule things ahead of deadlines. “Students don’t always plan very well and always seem to be chasing their schedule,” said Sherri Taylor, a professor at Syracuse University.
