• The Chronicle is a forum by practice.
• Length of time as a forum: Harvard-Westlake is a private school. There is no school board. There is a board of trustees. The newspaper wrote its own staff policy which is in a staff handbook distributed to all staff members every year, which defines itself as a forum, with content controlled by students working under a trained adviser.
In the past 16 years, no administrator, member of the faculty, member of the board of trustees, or any other person, has dictated or tried to dictate the content of the student newspaper. The only adult who sees the newspaper before it goes to the printer is the faculty adviser. The newspaper is 17 years old. The forum policy was first developed by the previous adviser, Susan Turner Jones, who was the adviser of the predecessor newspaper, the Westlake Pi.
