• Length of time as a forum: Since 1990 by state law and policy. The Plainsman has been a forum for 20 years by practice and 3 years by policy.
The Purple Press is a forum by policy for 3 years.

• Other points of significance:
Adviser Carol Singletary said after much frustration with prior review and restraint of the newspaper, she presented a policy which would allow the students to control the content of all school publications. The board approved the policy as proposed in the summer of 2004. Singletary is no longer adviser of the newspaper, but she remains with the yearbook.
