Fall conferences set across Ohio

First semester is the best time to jump-start your media training, and the
Ohio Scholastic Media Association has options for you. During the fall
semester, each of the five regional OSMA sites will have a workshop, every
one a little different with its own special highlights.

Sign up for the first workshop of the year -- Oct. 1 is Region 3 at Sinclair
Community College in Dayton. It's small and specialized, giving you a chance to see what college journalism is all about.

Want to focus on the skill you need most? Choose Oct. 9 for Region 4 at
University of Findlay in Findlay. Sign up in advance for the strand that
suits you. Plus each school can have a reporter, photographer and designer team be part of the maestro project. Spend the day learning about the Mazza Museum with its international art from picture books. Leave the workshop with a great package to run in your school newspaper or newsmagazine.

More than 50 short and snappy sessions are available Oct. 15 for Region 1 at Kent State University in Kent. Presenters are both newsroom pros and
classroom pros with a few top college journalism majors there to tell you
about life in JMC. Learn about podcasting, interviewing, cropping photos,
advertising, avoiding plagiarism -- if it has to do with student media,
you'll find it here.

Fall workshops haven't been in southeast Ohio in a while, but that will
change Nov. 7 when Region 2 hosts a workshop at Ohio University. Watch for more details in October.

Round out the semester with intensive, hands-on workshops in the central
part of the state when Region 5 has a daylong workshop at Otterbein College in Westerville. Watch for more details in October.
