OSMA OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES
TO LEARN MORE
ABOUT MEDIA
Take it up a notch this year with an OSMA workshop near you. It’s time to ramp up your reporting, writing, design, photography, videography … if it’s related to any kind of student media, we probably have it for you.
Newsroom pros and classroom pros put together sessions that help you engage your audience and learn more about being good journalists in the process.
In the northwest, Region 4 kicks off the season Thursday, Oct. 8 at The University of Findlay. There’s everything from hands-on broadcast practice to tips on finding story ideas you’ll really want to cover. What about how to write yearbook copy that isn’t last year’s with new dates? Want to know how to muck out the mud in your photos with Photoshop?

A new site for southwest Region 3, OSMA is hosting a workshop Friday, Oct. 16 at Miami University’s Voice of American Learning Center in West Chester near Cincinnati. The day's events include workshops in the morning with an afternoon press conference. You are encouraged to select two of your students as "working press" members who will be permitted to ask questions. Your other students may also attend the press conference as observers, but will not be seated in press row.

Kent State University is the site for northeast Region 1’s workshop Wednesday, Oct. 21. With nearly 50 sessions to choose from, you’re sure to find answers to your media questions. Tours and even some hands-on opportunities are available at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Franklin Hall with its HD broadcast studio and giant plasma screens to show student work.

Want to spend a little longer in sessions so you can practice what you learn? That’s a plus at central Region 5’s Friday, Dec. 4 event at Otterbein College. Pre-select a morning and an afternoon session and really dig into better photos, opinion that’s more than a rant, design that’s more than just pretty.
