Current Positions: Assistant professor Kent State University; director Center for Scholastic Journalism; director Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA); member Journalism Education Association (JEA) Scholastic Press Rights and Certification Commissions; chair Steering Committee and Advisory Council for the Student Press Law Center (SPLC); head Scholastic Journalism Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

National Positions: JEA President, Past President, Vice President; SPLC Board member and Outreach Committee chair; head, AEJMC Council of Affiliates.

National Honors: Dow Jones Newspaper Fund National Journalism Teacher of the Year; JEA Medal of Merit and Carl Towley Award; National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) Pioneer Award; Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) James Frederick Paschal and Gold Key Awards; AEJMC Scholastic Journalism Division Journalism Educator of the Year Award.

Publications: Co-author “Applying NCTE/IRA Standards in Classroom Journalism Projects”; Women in Scholastic Media chapter in “Women in Mass Communication”; co-author of law column in Dow Jones Newspaper Fund “Adviser Update”; numerous articles in “C:JET” and “Quill & Scroll” magazines.

B.S. in journalism and M.S. in journalism education from Northern Illinois University.
